Getting started

The basics

What is Ledger?
Ledger is a study-tracking and accountability app built specifically for CPA exam candidates. You log study sessions by section, track total hours, monitor your readiness score, set target exam dates, and stay accountable alongside a study group. Ledger does not sell study materials — no MCQs, no video lectures. It works alongside whatever review course you're already using (Becker, Roger, Wiley, Surgent, Gleim, etc.) and keeps you honest about your hours and on pace to finish.
Is Ledger affiliated with Becker, Roger, Wiley, or the AICPA?
No. Ledger is completely independent. We're not affiliated with any exam prep provider, the AICPA, or NASBA. You can use Ledger alongside any study materials — Becker, Roger, Wiley, Surgent, Gleim, or anything else.
Does Ledger guarantee I'll pass the CPA exam?
No, and we'd never claim that. Passing depends on your effort, your study materials, and a lot of factors outside our control. What Ledger does is give you the structure and accountability that research consistently shows improves exam outcomes — consistent hours, progress visibility, and a community keeping you honest.
Does Ledger work on mobile?
Yes. Ledger is a web app — no download required. It works on any phone, tablet, or desktop browser. On Android, Chrome will prompt you to add it to your home screen for an app-like experience. On iPhone or iPad, tap the Share button in Safari and choose "Add to Home Screen." Once added, it opens fullscreen like a native app.
How do I get started?
Create a free account at ledgercpa.com. During onboarding you'll set your exam sections, target exam date, and weekly hour goals. After that, log your first study session. The whole setup takes about two minutes.

Features

How it works

What is the readiness score?
Your readiness score is a 0–100 number that estimates how prepared you are for each CPA section based on your logged hours, your pace relative to your exam date, and your recent study consistency. It's not a prediction of your exam score — it's a signal. A score above 75 generally means you're on track. Below 50 is a warning that your current pace is unlikely to be enough before your exam date. The score updates every time you log a session.
What are study groups and how do they work?
Study groups let you connect with other candidates — usually classmates, coworkers, or people from your accounting firm. Each group has a firm code. Share the code or an invite link, and anyone who joins can see each other's logged sessions and progress in a shared activity feed. You can make your account private if you want to control who sees your activity.
Can I make my account private?
Yes. Go to Settings → Privacy and toggle your account to private. Private accounts require follow approval — only people you accept can see your study activity. Your profile still exists, but your sessions and progress are hidden from anyone you haven't approved.
What sections does Ledger track?
All four CPA exam sections under the current CPA Evolution model: AUD (Auditing and Attestation), FAR (Financial Accounting and Reporting), REG (Taxation and Regulation), and your chosen discipline section — BAR (Business Analysis and Reporting), ISC (Information Systems and Controls), or TCP (Tax Compliance and Planning). You track all four simultaneously or focus on one at a time.
Can I log my exam results and scores?
Yes. Use the "Log Exam Result" button on your dashboard to record your sit date, score (0–99), and attempt number. Ledger calculates whether you passed (score ≥ 75), automatically updates your section status, and — if you scored below 75 — shows your remaining NTS days and an adjusted study hour target for your retake based on hours logged since your sit date. If you passed, Ledger marks the moment with a shareable pass card.
What is the 30-month window and how does Ledger help?
Once you pass your first CPA section, you have 30 months to pass the remaining three. Miss the window and your earliest passed section expires — meaning you'd have to sit it again. Ledger shows your target exam dates per section and flags when an exam is within 14 days so you can see your readiness score and decide whether you're ready to sit. The pacing dashboard makes it easy to tell if your current pace will get you through all four sections in time.

Pricing & billing

Plans and payments

Do I need a credit card for the free trial?
No. The 7-day free trial for Pro and Elite requires no payment information. You only enter billing details if you decide to keep your subscription after the trial ends.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel before the trial ends and you won't be charged. Cancel a paid subscription at any time — you keep access through the end of your billing period. No questions asked.
What's the difference between Free, Pro, and Elite?
Free gives you everything most candidates need to get started: session logging, the pacing dashboard, streaks, study groups, and the community feed. Pro ($20/mo) adds AI coaching (Ask Ledger), smart study scheduling, advanced analytics, Streak Shield, and weekly PDF reports. Elite ($29/mo) adds the full Score Predictor, AI Mnemonic Generator, Study Partner Pairing, and Exam Simulator. Start free — you can upgrade any time. See the full breakdown at ledgercpa.com/pricing.
What is the Cram Plan?
The Cram Plan is a one-time purchase (not a subscription) that gives you full Pro-tier access for 6 months, plus an exam-day protocol PDF and a personal milestone check-in. It's designed for candidates with a fixed exam window who want everything at a lower total cost than 6 months of Pro billed monthly.
How does the student discount work?
Verify your student status with a .edu email or proof of enrollment and receive 35% off the Pro plan ($13/mo instead of $20/mo). Email support@ledgercpa.com to get verified. The discount applies for as long as your enrollment is active.
Does the annual plan auto-renew?
Yes, annual plans renew automatically unless cancelled. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time from Settings → Account in the app.
Can I switch plans?
Yes. Upgrade or downgrade at any time. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period.
Do you offer refunds?
We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on first-time purchases of any paid plan. Email support@ledgercpa.com within 30 days of your first charge and we'll take care of it.

Account & data

Your information

What happens to my data if I cancel?
Cancelling your paid subscription downgrades you to the free tier — your data stays intact. If you delete your account entirely, your data is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days. We don't sell your data or keep it after account deletion.
Can I export my study data?
Yes. Email support@ledgercpa.com to request a full export of your study logs and account data. Pro and Elite users can also download PDF progress reports directly from the app.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. This is permanent and cannot be undone. All your data will be removed within 30 days.
Is my study data private by default?
By default, your profile is public to other Ledger users — your display name, streak, and logged hours are visible in the community feed. You can switch to a private account in Settings → Privacy at any time. Private accounts require follow approval before anyone can see your activity.
